Down the memory lane!

Dear Ma,
It was you who taught me to distinguish between the two things which appeared similar to me but were quite different such as ‘b’ and ‘d’, ‘6’ and ‘9’, ‘blue’ and ‘violet’, ‘cow’ and ‘buffalo’, ‘mango’ and ‘pear’, ‘left’ and ‘right’, ‘multiplication’ and ‘division’. When I grew up you taught me the most important thing that need to be distinguished all through the life – the ability to distinguish between ‘honesty’ and ‘dishonesty’, ‘truth’ and ‘lie’, ‘faithfulness’ and ‘unfaithfulness’.

I still remember the day when my classmate, baby ‘V’ decided not to make the project on ‘Diseases caused by mosquitoes’ rather get it done from a doctor on pay basis. I requested you to also get my project work done from him as I would not be able to give it a professional touch how hard I might try. You explained me that for doing any work there are two ways – one is difficult, long and requires lot of hard work but there is success in end for sure and other is short, too easy and tempting but one will fall or get in trap any time. You asked me to choose one out of two options. As I have faith in you, I opted for the success in the end. You helped me in making the project from library books and newspaper cuttings related to health. It took my whole three days to collect, analyze and compile that data where as baby ‘F’ enjoyed those days in watching movies and cricket match.

I and baby ‘F’ submitted the project on time. Next day in the school, as the teacher entered the class, she called baby ‘F’ and asked, “Did you made the project yourself?
She nodded.
Teacher shouted, “Tell me the truth.”
She said, “Yes, I made it.”
The teacher wrote a big zero on her project report and showed to the class. “If anybody repeats the same mistake, I will give a BIG zero. If you need any help you can come to me anytime, I am always there to help you but don’t you dare to get it done by others.” The teacher punished baby ‘F’ for telling a lie. Your guidance to choose the right path saved me from being humiliated in front of the whole class. I realized the importance and significance of truth, honesty and faith in your teachings. That day I can never forget!

Yesterday at work place, Mr. ‘D’ gave me a lucrative offer for changing some figures in company’s data. The bribe was too tempting too resist but the values you had incorporated in me were still there. Without any hesitation, I declined that offer.

Your values, teaching are always with me to guide me, to overcome obstacles whenever I find them on my path of success.

Your dearest daughter,
Cutie

Gender Equality at home

“Yesterday we returned from a five day tour of Rajasthan. The house was extremely dirty and it took me six hours to do the dusting, mopping and changing bed sheets. My mother cooked the food for the family while I washed all the dirty clothes we accumulated in our journey. Oh! I am hell tired. And I am feeling sleepy in the office.” Ms. ‘F’ said.
“When you were working was your brother busy?” I asked.
“Yes, He was watching the cricket match between India and Pakistan.”
“But he could have helped you in washing clothes. These days, it is very easy to clean dirty clothes because of good washing powder like Ariel.”
“My father and brother don’t help us in work chores. On returning home after office hours they both either watch T.V. or read newspaper or sometimes play video games on laptop.”
“Auntiji and you both must be dog tired after working for whole day in office and doing all household work without any maid.”
“My mother screams more frequently on me than earlier. I feel it is because of decrease in her efficiency with the increase in age where as the pressure of work at office and home remains the same.”
“You should convince uncle that aunty is now not able to cope up with the office and household work because of that she screams and shouts more. Any family member can’t divide her office work but atleast you all can together lessen her work pressure at home. You should persuade uncle to help aunty in household chores like chopping vegetables, attending door bells, washing clothes, watering plants and serving food. When uncle will start helping aunty in household chores your brother will follow his example. Look as soon as I am out of the house my husband look after the house from cooking food to looking after the kids. As you know my parents and in-laws live with us, he takes care of them as well. Proudly I will say, he earns more than me and manages the house even better than me! Last weekend lots of guests turned up in our house and the maid took an unexpected leave. There was a huge pile of soiled dishes which he cleans all alone while I was cleaning the house, changing the bed sheets and cushion covers and helping the kids in doing their home work. After finishing our respective works, we all sit together to watch the latest release of Ranbir Kapoor. We have a gender equality at home that’s why we all enjoy life as no need arise to vent out the frustrations accumulated because of imbalance in household work. Our life is balanced and happier as we have gender equality at home.”

In the pic you can see roasted barley. It is a healthy snack eaten in summers in North Indian villages. The crop harvests in April and barley is roasted and stored. It is eaten during hot weather till rains starts pouring in. This is a rough to eat but a good munch. It is grind in powder form to make sattu. Sattu is dissolved in water and sugar is mixed in it. It is either eaten in semisolid or liquid form as the person relishes. It gives cool effect to body.

Eat or drink lot of sattu this summer and stay cool. :)

Try with a fresh mind!

Mrs. 'G' updated her Facebook status.
"I tried to make khandvi but I am unable to make it thin like a sheet and can’t roll it. Either it becomes lumpy or doesn’t cook properly and sticks on the surface on which I spread it. I have tried it eight times What should I do?"
One of her friend, Mr. 'F' commented, "Try not to cook too much or too less. Settle somewhere in between."
Mrs. 'G' replied, "I tried once more but again failed."
Mrs. 'X' suggested, "Put the layer of oil on the surface of thali or slab."
Mrs. 'G' replied, "Not able to get the desired results."
Mr. 'P' advised her, "Go to sleep, you are tired now, give it a try tomorrow with a fresh mind."

Mulberry fruit

Mrs. 'L' posted in a group on a social networking site.
"I want to purchase mulberry fruits. From where can I buy them in city 'X'?"

Many persons suggested the name of different markets and shops where she could find the summer fruit whose season lasts only for twenty days. She were dissatisfied with all the answers and wanted to buy from a market which was just walk able distance from her house.

Atlast Mr. 'V' suggested.
"I have seen three-four mulberry trees on 'Y' road near 'B' school. Many persons climbed the trees and picked up the fruits from the trees. You can also try this, as it is very close to your house." ;)

Buying a house for a couple

I tried to open the door with the key. It didn’t work. Daily I opened the door with the same key but today it was as low as me! Not in a mood to move further. I was feeling blue because my home loan was not sanctioned by the bank and my application was rejected on a baseless ground. And with this my dream to buy a house of my own came to an end. With disappointment, I rotated the key once more with a little force to tackle the rust inside. This time, I could open the door.

I put my bag on the table and sat on a sofa, turning the pages of a newly arrived magazine. Suddenly I saw an advertisement of a developer who had developed a very large society near Greater Gurgaon, a property spread over 105 acres in the lap of nature. The flats had all the modern amenities, plenty of greenery and natural calmness. The 1800 families were already living there. I lost my heart not to be in those lucky families. I felt suffocated inside the room.

For some fresh air, I moved towards the balcony of my house in which I was living from the past five years on rent. As I opened the door of balcony and steeped into it, I saw an Indian myna coming towards the balcony who changed its flight direction and sat at some distance on the windowsill of the toilet. I was observing its movements and it was observing mine movements. Surprisingly I came early today and it was not expecting me at this time in the balcony. It was holding a small dry leave in its beak. Oh My Ghosh! It is making nest somewhere in my balcony!!

Three months before I bought a wooden bird house and nailed in on the wall near the air conditioner. In all the hustle and bustle to buy a new house, I forgot about the bird house. Suddenly a tree pie came from nowhere and that bird lose hold of the leaf from its beak which it must have selected after rejecting scores of leaves. The leaf danced in a rhythm half because of wind and half because of gravity. It attacked the tree pie so rigorously that tree pie would never dare to come again in this area. A small bird shooing a large size bird confirmed me that Indian myna had made its nest. To take rest, it sat on the air conditioner box. My eyes moved towards the bird house. Another Indian myna was curiously peeping outside from the round opening of bird house.

Even if I didn’t get a house for my own but I was happy as I had given a house to a pair of birds who were busy in protecting and decorating it in their own style. This gave me immense happiness. Surely than buying a house for me!
