Stressful life and greying of hair

“These days, my life is so stressful that my hair have started greying.” A young woman told me.
“Now you can color your hair with purple dye.” I suggested.
“I don’t want to be a clown.”
“Purple color hair looks cool with purple color dress.”

Do you agree or disagree that the common reason of greying of hair is stressful life?

  1. Life style will not greatly impact on hair losing its color. There is no certainty regarding stress to be the cause of white hair, rather stress could be a contributory factor for grey hairs.

  5. A myth I think. Rather a genetical disposition, external factors may contribute. When I had a stressful life my hair was full and bright. Now its sparse and mouse, the stresslevel going against zero. :)

  8. Yes, stress could be a major factor in premature greying. But, purple hair is yuck :)

  9. My mom had her first grey hair after 50, and me a good 20 years before. It can be attributed perhaps to a lot of factors - unhealthy diet (odd timings, fast food, fertilizer sprayed fruits & veggies...), environment (weather, pollution...), lifestyle (multi-tasking, pressures, stress...) and such.

Coloring hair is something very trendy in Fashion industry or adding streaks in the front...nothing to do with Grey hair..it considered something very classy in fashion world!!
    rest is personal choice!!

  11. stress can be one reason, but note solely responsible....I have always felt that the tradfiton of covering our heads saved our hair earlier from getting grey.

  13. Chandrika,

NaNoWriMo is a news to me. Do join and let us know how it works. Stess may lead to other problems but I have never yet heard it leading to grey hair.

    Take care

  18. back to the point, i think heredity is a factor and yes stress too i guess.. then usage of too much of hair care products which will surely do more damage than good..
