Small pieces of candles

“It seems that some fault has occurred in the electric wire supplying electricity to our house.” The kid said as he saw other houses in the locality were well lit with the back up power supply.
“Oh! The battery of mobile is discharged. The emergency light will not work as I forget to charge it. There are no candles as need never arise because of power back up system in this society.” The mother said in disappointment.
“Next day of Diwali I collected unburned pieces of candles from our balcony and stored them in my box. I have two small candles. We can use them.” The kid went to fetch them.

I was their guest who was observing this.

Should one store such small things in house as they can be needed any time or they just occupy the good space and are useless most of the time?

Continous honking

Honk! Honk!! Honk!!!
A young guy in the car honked on a congested road of Gurgaon as the middle aged person in the front car was not providing sufficient space for his car to move ahead. The middle aged man was busy in talking on mobile. The young guy disturbed that middle aged man to the utmost extent by honking non stop.

Do you think it is irrational to disturb a person as there can be some important call on the mobile or it is the best way to realise that person his mistake by continuously honking?

Playing cards

“You can come to my house for household chores from tomorrow morning. You have to come at sharp 8am.” An elderly woman instructed her newly appointed maid.
“Do you go to some office, ma’am?” Maid wanted to know the reason. “I work in other houses also. I will not be free at that time”
“Actually at 9am sharp I go to activity centre for playing cards. I never delay it. You can do the work in other houses later on. Don’t forget to come to my house on time.”

The maid couldn’t digest this reason and hence told the residents of whole society.

Do you think that playing cards is a justified reason for asking maid to come on time or no?

Meditation begins …

“Meditation begins as soon as we start taking slow breath so slow that we do not hear our own inhaling and exhaling sound.” A saint said.

Do you think meditation begins by taking slow breath or by closing eyes?

Twelfth floor

I have to go on twelfth floor of a building.

Dirty joke

“It is a hell dirty joke!” A guy commented so loud with dismay that his group of friends could hear him. They were all watching a movie in a theatre hall. The scene was that Miss ‘N’ teased her widow grandmother to get married who was insisting her for marriage. Miss ‘N’ was not interested in getting married although she had a decent job and a nice house.

Do you think guys enjoy or dislike dirty jokes?

Dork

I opened the book ‘Dork’ by Sidin Vadukut from my handbag and started reading it from where I left it earlier as the staff member of bank asked me to wait for sometime. Reading one of the hilarious incidences from it, I was in a dilemma to laugh or not?

Should I laugh heartedly in bank or shouldn’t laugh as to maintain the decorum of the bank?

Bare torso

“These days even woman are dressed up like man.” On seeing a person with long hair wearing lose white T-shirt and floral printed boardshorts, walking in the park; a kid sitting beside on bench with me couldn’t resist from commenting.
In the second round of walking that person removed white top and was holding it in left hand.
“Oh Sh*t! It is a MAN!” The kid commented again.

When the kid did guess it right, first time or second time? ;-)

In shopping mall!

Yesterday, I was seeing the photographs stored in my computer. I came across a pic which I clicked in a shopping mall on Independence Day. The mall was decorated with tricolour balloons, star, some decorative hangings and a phansi ka phanda (hanged rope).

Do you think this decoration is patriotic or hilarious?

A few days back I read about him that he can run 35 kilo meters at a stretch.

His advice

“I have started blogging which means writing regularly on internet.” Near about one year back I elatedly told the eldest member of my family.
“On which other people come and leave comments.” He said.
“Yes.”
“You write about what?”
“About my minute observations. I am writing in English and not in Hindi. I know my English is not so good but I am giving it a try.”
“Keep writing it will improve.” He advised me.

I recalled this conversation after hearing the news of his death.

This is 225th post, dedicated to his advice.

Bottle cap

“In my youth days, I can open a cap of soda or soft drink bottle with my thumb only.” An elderly man told me.
“There is some trick or force is used to do so.” I asked.
“Force only!”

Was he flaunting or serious?

HVD

Dear M,
Wherever you are, with who ever you are, I just want to say three words, “Happy Valentine Day!”

Blogger friends, should I write in the end of this message ‘With lots of hugs and kisses’ or just ‘Take care’/ ‘Cheers’?

Toffees in exchange of coins!

“I do not have three rupees change so I am giving you these toffees.” A shopkeeper said to a customer.

“Do you have two rupees change, ma’am?” That shopkeeper asked me when my turn came for billing.
“I have toffees in exchange.” I replied.

Will shopkeeper accept toffees in exchange of coins from me or no?

When I was six years old .....

“Is it your cat?” Maid’s kid asked me as her mother was busy doing household chores. Today he had fever so came along with her. On seeing a white colored cat with black and white stripped tail he couldn’t resist asking.
“Yes, it is mine. Its name is Bilu.” I told him when I was six years old. “When I call it, I produce poch poch sound to demonstrate, it come near me. It starts rubbing its body against mine to show affection. And when I say shoo and stamp my foot loudly on ground it knows that now I am angry and go away.”
“Is it ladeez or gentz?” He asked.

“Why don’t you shift to wordpress, Chandrika?” A good friend of mine asked.
“Hmm….Most of my blogger friends are leaving blogspot and joining wordpress.” I said.

Which is the better place to blog; wordpress or blogspot?

Season of marriages and functions

“Last two months were the season of marriages and functions so I ate non-veg dishes and drink a lot. From past a few days, I had a light pain in my heart. I had a thorough check up; it was a great relief to find out that I had no heart problem. The doctor advised me to eat light food as it might be a gastric problem. You know, I am Punjabi and we love to eat spicy and fried food. In boiled dal (pulses) we add half kilogram of desi ghee to make it delicious. I told my doc that even my dog didn't relish porridge and hotchpotch. It would sniff and leave.” A young guy narrated his story to me.

Do you have control on your eating habits in season of marriages and functions or no?

An unforgettable experience!

“How was your trip to Goa?” I asked the kid.
“It was so so as I was not feeling well and had vomiting sensation most of the time during journey in semi hilly area.”
“Mine was an unforgettable experience!” I said. “What did you like most in Goa?”
“When the waves hit me from behind, I fell in water and when I swim, they pushed me further. This was an unforgettable experience. I liked the Vagator Beach the most. Which beach you liked?”
“The beaches, I liked so so. But I liked the country side very much especially the lake near airport which was flooded with white lotus. I am really proud that lotus is our National flower.”

Have you ever seen so many lotuses at one place or no?

No coconut water!

On most of the beaches in Goa, there were waves in oceans, sand, bars & restaurants and coconut trees with numerous fruits of all sizes.

Surprisingly no shops were selling coconut water on beaches. But on every selling point there were varieties of soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. Mineral water in different brand names were also available.

Do you think this is commercialisation of beaches or to preserve the beauty of beaches coconuts are not sold as coconut took time in biodegradation?

It stinks!

“I am having vomiting sensation.” The kid told me.
I immediately stopped the car. “Let’s have a short walk to harbour of Mandavi River which is near.”
“Fine.” He said while stepping out of the car.
We crossed the road and entered a fish market closed to harbour.
“It stinks. I can’t bear it.” The kid who is eggetarian reacted.
“You have to cope with it.” I told.
“No, I can’t.”
“Put your handkerchief on your nose.” I suggested.
He took fast paces to fish market and harbour and declared “I am alright. I have no more vomiting sensation. Let’s move out of this place.”

His vomiting sensation evaporated because of short walk to harbour or because of foul smell of fish market?

Close your eyes

Location : Vagator Beach, Goa

“I forget the towel in the hotel. Now how will I change my clothes in front of so many people? I am not like these foreigners who change their clothes on beach without a towel. We have to go back to hotel to fetch my towel.” A kid narrated this problem to me.
“There is one more option.” I said.
“Whats that?” He enquired excitedly.
“We can ask everyone on the beach to close their eyes while you change your clothes.”

Will the child be irritated or amused with this dialogue of mine?

2000 $ Prize!

Location : Parking area of Baga Beach, Goa

“You win second prize of 2000 $! You are a lucky lady!! There are so many people who try their luck daily but only a few get this prize. I, myself has seen this prize for the first time. Earlier I have just heard about it. You have to just come with me to my resort which is two minutes distance from here. You have to meet the staff and they will hand over you the prize money.” A young guy told me as on scratching the card given by him showed second prize of 2000 $ out of four other prizes printed on that card.
“Hmmm.” I said.
“I will get Rs. 500 if you will visit our resort.”

Should I go to that resort and collect the prize money or should I forget about that as it can be a fraud?

Goan Food

In lunch, I ordered Goan food veg balchao, pea rice and curd. Before serving the meal, the waiter of Goan resturant placed the bill on the table.

Do you think the waiter was sleeping even at lunch time or one has to pay the bill before Goan food is served?

Washing face with mineral water

The kid vomited in the vehicle. The semi liquid splashed on the windowpane, handles, under the seat on foot mats. It was everywhere. Sigh! I took him out of the vehicle as we parked a car in a side lane of a highway. Earlier the kid told me that he was about to vomit but on a highway the car was in full speed that too on right side and it took time to stop it on the left side. The kid couldn’t wait and vomit.

As in the car there was only mineral water for drinking which in case of need I gave to the kid for cleaning his mouth and face. He washed and wiped it with tissue papers.
As he throw the last tissue paper he said, “Washing face with mineral water was an awesome experience!”

Should I scold the child for vomiting it the car and not telling me before hand or should I smile on his cheerful innocence?

Sunday Night Dance Party, Goa

Dim lights, beats and dance moves!
A middle aged man on wheel chair was moving his hands with the beats.

Fast blinking dim lights, fast beats and fast dance moves!
The man on wheel chair was moving his hands faster with fast beats. He lost his balance with his chair which fell on one side. People rushed towards him, brought his chair to normal position and made him comfortable on it.

Do you think he is upset as he falls or he is dancing again with the same enthusiasm?

Saturday Night Market, Arpora

I was quite surprised to notice a middle aged woman selling ready made garments at Saturday Night Market in Arpora, Goa who spoke confidently to a customer in Russian.

On asking she told me that she could converse well in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

I know only my Mother tongue and English.

How many languages can you speak confidently?

Ferry

“What are the charges of ferry for three of us and a car?” I asked the conductor of ferry from Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary to Panji city.
“I was doing the calculations, yesterday on beach for a short ride on boat a person charged us Rs.100 per person. Today, we were three so it is going to be Rs.300+ and including car is was going to be Rs.1000 or more. I will bargain to slash prices to Rs.700-800.” I thought.
“Rs.7 only.” He replied.

Do you think should I bargain or no scope for bargaining is left?

A fight in the sky!

A kite with its piercing beak hit another kite who was carrying a prey in its claws. The hit was so forceful that it lost its grip on the prey. The prey fell. I was on a boat ride in Mandavi river, watching this scene exactly above me.

What do you think the injured prey will fall in the boat and I will be able to save it or will it fall in the river water to become the prey of big fishes/ crocodiles?

Moody

I was on a boat ride in the river Mandavi to watch water birds. There were lots of stocks, kingfishers, and kites on the trees, flying from here and there, basking in sun or catching their preys.

In the river, the groups of fishes which were jumping above water as the boat moved forward also attracted my attention. The guide told me that they called them moody fish.

I want to touch the moody fish. Will I be able to do so or no?

Bird watching in Goa

“Nobody comes to Goa for bird watching in forests.” A guy commented.
“Everybody comes to Goa for chick watching at beaches.” The gal commented.

So what do you like to watch bird or chick? ;)

Sunset at Anjuna Beach, Goa

On Anjuna Beach, at the sunset time a newly wed couple was enjoying cuddling and kissing each other, standing in waves. A powerful wave came. They couldn’t maintain their balance and fell apart.

Do you think if a wave can part them then will they be able to face the difficult situations ahead in life or no?

Casino

“On the right hand side of river Mandavi is a harbour, the ships you can see are used for fishing, on the left hand side the boats are used for boating purpose and far away in the middle of the river you can see a huge ship, it is a world class famous casino.” The guide told me as we were crossing the bridge on Mandavi river while going from airport to Anjuna Beach.

Do you think should I do gambling for fun or should I not do as gambling is a vice?

Sleeping in aeroplane

“How can I sleep when Dad and you were dozing? Whole journey, I was awake to take care of our baggage placed in the cabins above.” A kid told his mother when aeroplane was about to land at Goa airport.

Do you think the kid is innocently intelligent or has searched a good excuse for not sleeping?

Switch off your mobile

Even after repeated instructions of airhostess to ‘Switch off your mobile’, a mobile rang as aeroplane was about to take off. The guy seems to be a villager from Haryana as he was talking on mobile in typical Haryanvi accent.
“Bro, don’t you know that a mobile phone has to be switched off in aeroplane.” A kid said to that guy.

What do you think that that guy was ignorant about this fact or he was ignoring the instructions to grab beautiful airhostess’s attention?

A borrowed book

I borrowed a book from an elderly man in my neighbourhood. Earlier I was searching that book in book shops and libraries but couldn’t find it. I requested him to lend me that book for reading. He told me that his son gave him the book on his 75th birthday. He politely asked me to return the same after reading. I convinced him that I would return it in good condition. Because of my busy schedule I could read it one third only.

Today, in the evening I heard that he is no more.

Now what should I do, read the book complete or return it to his son who has come from a foreign country for his cremation?

This is 200th post but I am not in a mood to celebrate.

Time to pack

A specific size bag is all I have to place my things. I do not want to check in my baggage as I do not want to waste time in Goa waiting for baggage. All necessary items like tooth brush, comb, money and photo identity card I have placed.

What do you suggest, should I pack western dresses like jeans, cargo, skirt and tops or Indian dresses like salwar suit dupatta or saree blouse for my trip to Goa?

Earthquake

Tonight at 1:15am, I woke up by the cluttering of windows. “OMG! Earthquake!!” I screamed.
“Happy Marriage Anniversary!!!” My husband whispered in my ears.

Mrs. ‘R’ narrated this incidence to me in the morning.

Do you think husbands always remember to wish marriage anniversary or they always forget to wish?

Little Monkey

“Aawweee!!!” I screamed as I saw a little monkey climbing on my left leg. I was eating a rolled parantha stuffed with potato veg, sitting in my car with opened door at Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary near Gurgaon. I was also holding a class bottle half filled with water.

Should I hit it on its head with the bottle in my left hand or should I throw the rolled parantha away from my right hand?

A trip to Goa!

“You need a break, Chandrika. Go on vacation for some days, it will refresh you.” A friend suggested me.
“Where I will go? It is freaking cold outside.”
“Goa! No cold waves rather pleasant weather!!”
“Not a bad idea!!!”

Should I opt for the tour packages offered by various companies or should I do everything own from ticket and hotel reservations to sight seeing?

Black money

“My hubby is such a innocent fool that if I stole the money from his pocket he never comes to know. He spends money recklessly and it is only ME who has to think about saving money. Today without telling him went to bank to deposit all that saved money that I collected from his pocket.” A newly wed wife of a reputed businessman boosted.

Her mobile rang.

“My hubby’s call! He calls me whenever he is free from his work to chat. He misses me.” She elatedly told me. “Hellooo!”

“Bank manager told me that today you went to bank to deposit huge sum of money in bank. Go to the bank and bring back that money. If you have extra money then give it to ME. This money can’t be deposited in bank as it is BLACK MONEY.” I overheard the voice of her husband on the mobile.

Do you think money should be in boring neutral colours like black money and white money or it should also be in multicolour like green money, blue money, yellow money, red money, purple money etc.?

While cleaning my cupboard, I found this piece of cloth with rose embroidery on it. A few years back I embroidered it in cross stitch on white coloured fabric.

Can you suggest me what article should I make with this embroidered piece that looks pretty?

Sabudana ki khichadi

“What is troubling you, Chandrika.” One of my elderly relative asked me.
“I forgot the recipe of Sabudana ki khichadi, all my relatives and friends at this very hour are busy who can tell me.” I replied
“You can search the net for the recipe.”

If you want to know something whom do prefer to ask relatives and friends or internet?

Bedridden woman

Her shrieks disturbed me.

She was a bedridden woman in my neighbourhood who was suffering from past 8 years. She was 72 years old. Her children left their careers to look after her. Though both were very caring and took good care of her even then she cried day and night. Her unbearable pains could be possible for her screams.
Yesterday, she died.

Should I be relieved as she gets rid of all pains or should I mourned as she is no more?

Why are you single, Chandrika?

“Do you find the time to see my birth chart?” Miss. ‘S’ asked me.

“I have a glance on your birth chart but can’t find the time to go through it in detail as I was not feeling well from past 15 days.” I replied.

“I have shown by birth charts to hundreds of astrologers. All said that my life’s difficult time started when I was 18 years old and it would remain in my life till I would be 36 years old. My studies, my career and my marriage all are affected due to this, 18 years bad time in my life! The prime time of my life is terrible!!”

“Time changes everything. You will have a good period in 2012. At that time you will have a good career and you may meet your soul mate.” I predicted for her.

“That is too far. By the way, why are you single, Chandrika; is it the worst effect of stars and planets or you can’t find a decent guy for yourself?” She asked.

New Year Greetings

This year I received New Year Greetings from my friends and relatives via electronic media. I would say that I was lucky to received one greeting card. It was yellow colored paper on which wishes were printed in red ink. That was from an 84 years old man in our locality.

The card was misprinted as
From
P. K. Singal
where as his name is R.K. Singal.

With the red pen a slant line was marked to convert ‘P’ into ‘R’ on 250 cards for all residents. Hats off to such enthu.

This year, did you receive any greeting card or just electronic messages?

Justification to smoking

“We, all poor labours do the hard work all the day. We don’t have TV or radio to entertain ourselves. It is only the bidi which we smoke to relieve our tensions and frustrations.” A labour replied to a health worker who was convincing him to stop smoking.

Do you think smoking is justified with these reasons or smoking can’t be justified at all?

Tossing a coin

In the car, she reached T point of the road, took out a coin from her pocket and tossed it. Holding it between her palms she blew. She removed her hand to see the result. Oh! No! What a disappointment on her face!

Can you suggest her whether she should take Left or Right?

Inactive snake

“Snake! Snake!! SNAKE!!!” All labours shouted in chorus.
“Where?” I enquired.
“There.” They pointed towards a brownish snake with beautiful patterns on it which was lying inactive due to cold weather.
“As I removed this rock, I found it.” A young guy explained to me.
“It won’t say anything. It is inactive because of winter season. Keep doing the work and just a little away from it.”
“We have to dig the land there, it is must.” Another elderly labour said.
“We will not work there if snake it there. We are afraid of it.” All of them spoke.
"They all are scared of this little creature, I must do something." I thought.

I took a solid wooden stick, placed its one end below the body of snake and firmly grasped the other end. Making maximum use of my scientific knowledge of lever, I with full force lifted the snake. And OMG! The snake flew above all of us and hung on a branch of a near by tree. May be I used too much of force. Sigh!

It was still dormant.

Now, what to do?

My biggest opponent

My biggest opponent is ME as I have to perform better than myself. So in 2010 whatever I have written I want to write better than that in 2011.

HAPPY 2011!
