Dad is dude

“Dude, lets go.” A young girl said to her father with whom I was discussing some business related thing. Her immature behaviour surprised me.
“Wait for some time.” He told his collegiate daughter.
“Dude, We are getting late for the market.” She insisted.

Do you think Dad is dude or Dad is dad?

  1. Personally I like being called amma rather than mom. So the dad has to decide if he doesn't mind being the cool dude.

  2. When I become a dad, I wouldn't mind being called a dude as long as the respectful sense stays..

  3. I think it depends upon the rapport you share with your dad...I love my dad and know that he is a dude though I never called him that...

  4. Everything cannot be casual and anything cannot be the norm. I like certain things to be the way they were. Call me old school but still.

    Joy always,

  5. I like being called amma, but mostly the sons call me 'ma', it sounds good! But I don't like other names! Dude sounds funny! Pa or appa sounds good!

  6. It differs from person to person and what one is comfortable with but as Akshay Sharma says respect should be there.

  7. I always called my father "father" in my language. My (step)son calls me by my name because I show him the respect calling him with his name.

  8. My son has started doing the dude bit but he only, luckily, keeps it for his friends. His dad has been spared this far. If he tries, then I am sure he will get an earful.

  10. Looks like the 'dad' dude didn't mind, so why bother! I would personally not address my dad as dude nor will I appreciate my kids calling us by these so-called funky names that don't mean anything even remotely "father" / "mother"!

  11. I think it does not matter much ...And to an extent I think its good. Calling one's dad by the name "dude" shows the freeness the daughter has towards her parent. Which means, he does not have to worry about her hiding anything from him or anything like that. I guess in such cases, the "dad" does not behave in a strict way, which enables the daughter to open up to him and express all feelings....

  12. Why not leave the decision to those involved.
